He's the one on the right. They told me he liked to carry me around when I was a baby. That he showed me off to his football team. I was flower girl in his wedding when I was 4 - that's the age gap. We shared genes and history and love for Alabama football. He liked speckled butter beans and egg custard pie. He gave me a set of World Book Encyclopedias for Christmas one year. He told me I ought to "go into computers" when I was in college.

On this day nine years ago, he joined the two on the left in Heaven. Of the four of us original Chandlers, I'm the only one still alive. It's lonely here without them. (I wear black framed glasses like yours, Daddy.)

Alabama is doing real good this year, Charles. Might win another championship. Quarterback is a shoe-in for Heisman. I make this buttermilk pie you would love. I finally "went into computers" - only took me about 40 years to get around to it. I loved those books you gave me. I loved the world you gave me. I loved you. I love you. Selah.

Buttermilk Pie

6 eggs

1 cup buttermilk

3/4 cup melted butter

1 T vanilla

3 cups sugar

1/2 cup flour

2 unbaked 9" pie shells

Combine all ingredients (except the pie shells) in a blender and process until thoroughly mixed and slightly thickened. You can also use a mixer, just make sure it's good and blended up. Divide between the two pie shells and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. You can half the recipe for one pie, but why?
